Stefany King Miller from the Classic Swing Golf School in Myrtle Beach, S.C. steps in for part 5 of their Power Series, where she discusses how proper extension can help create more power. Check it out!
Stefany King Miller:
Hey, guys. So now that we’ve talked about the setup and talked about the downswing, now let’s talk about extension and the follow-through. So this tip right here, we’re going to talk about post-impact after we hit the golf ball, what our arm is supposed to do.
So we have to make sure as we strike the golf ball, we extend those arms nice and long until about, I’m going to say three o’clock. So one great drill we like to do here at the Classic Swing Golf School is if you take your club, it could be an iron or a driver, put the club in your lead hand. Now what you’re going to do is with your trail arm and trail hand, you’re going to try to get that arm to touch the golf club.
Now you can see right here, it’s not touching. So now if I pull my arms in, this is a big no-no in golf, we do not want the arms to pull in post-impact. You’ll hit off the toe, you’ll hit it low, and you’re not going to like the shot.
So if I do it right now, in the left-hand, right arm out, extend, and you can see I’m also turning to get the extension through the golf ball. So let’s see if I can do that now with the golf ball.
Worked pretty well!
