Tip Tuesday: The “Sand Magic” Way to Better Bunker Play!

In the fourth and final installment of the school’s latest scoring series of videos, Chris Fortenberry of the Classic Swing Golf School at Legends Golf Resort in Myrtle Beach, S.C. is here to demonstrate a practice drill that is sure to help your greenside bunker game!

Chris Fortenberry:
Hey, guys. This is Chris Fortenberry, the new golf instructor here at Classic Swing Golf School, and I’m here today to share with you our tip that we like to use out of the bunker; when you’re struggling a little bit, trying to find your form, this is a great drill we like to use. We call it “Sand Magic.”

And what goes into this is we’re going to have two tees that we’re going to put down in the sand that you see right here. And what I’m going to try to do is hit a specific spot in the sand to simulate when I have a real golf ball here. I’m going to set up to this, just like a normal bunker shot. I’m going to try and clip the tee and hit a little bit of sand after it. Just like that. And I’ll do it one more time, just like that.

Once I’ve done that, we go to our next drill we use, is we’ll tee up the ball. And what we’re going to try to do when we tee it up is we’re trying to see that ball get out of the bunker. So you have a high lip here, what I’m trying to do is get the ball out of the bunker and see it live. Here we go. Just like that.

Once I’ve done that, I can move on to my regular bunker shot. Get back to reality here, no more tees. Okay, I’ll set up. Feeling the same thing, trying to clip the tee, hit a little bit of sand, like I just did. And there we go. We’re out of the bunker!
