Ask the Pro: The 3 Best, Most Scenic and Most Challenging Holes at Glen Dornoch

This Little River course is consistently singled out for its closing stretch — often called one of the toughest, most scenic finishes on the Grand Strand. Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links’ Angela Prince agrees, citing holes 16 through 18 here as the best finale to a round in Myrtle Beach golf.

“They all require perfect shots to par the hole,” Prince explains. “Also, they have some of the most beautiful scenery around. All three holes are on the Intracoastal waterway with marsh views.  You also have a good chance at seeing wildlife including a bald eagle, alligator, deer, and turkey. They all roam these unique golf holes and have been spotted by our golfers.

“Boat traffic is constantly moving on the Waterway, which adds to the beauty of these holes,” she adds. “So be sure to bring your camera and relaxed attitude to enjoy your game here.”

Here’s a brief breakdown of what to know about each hole:

Hole 16 (Par 4) A demanding dogleg with a blind or downhill tee shot that sets up a long approach into a small, well-guarded green; it’s one of the most photographed and feared holes on the Grand Strand, and widely considered one of the most demanding par 4s in the Myrtle Beach area.

Hole 17 (Par 3) The scenic showpiece of the round. It plays over and around marsh/water to a green with a bunker reinforced by railroad ties on the right, and the scenic par-3 17th plays over marshland as part of the course’s especially strong finish. Wind is often a factor here, making a two-putt par feel like an accomplishment. This is arguably the most scenic hole on the course.

Hole 18 (Par 4) A risk-reward closer that runs along the Intracoastal Waterway on the left side, requiring a drive over wetlands and a well-placed approach into a large, heavily-bunkered double green, the par-4 18th finishes with a massive double-green shared with the 9th hole. That shared 9th/18th green sits right beside the clubhouse, so it’s common for groups to relax on the clubhouse deck watching others finish.
