Ask the Pro: 3 Best Birdie Holes at Tradition Golf Club

For this week’s “Ask the Pro” we head down to Pawleys Island and pay a visit to Tradition Golf Club, where General Manager & Head Golf Professional Sean Gilroy checks in to share his thoughts on the three holes at his course he feels present the best scoring opportunities for your round.

Gilroy’s choices include:

Hole No. 1 – No need to wait for your first scoring opportunity here. “Right out the gate, you have a 320-yard par 4 with a big, wide-open fairway favoring the left side to avoid the big tree and fairway bunker on the right side,” says Gilroy. “The green slopes back to front, so short of the hole should leave an uphill putt.”

Hole No. 12 – A downhill par 3 that showcases the property’s beauty and runs about 130–145-yards to a large green. “Hit your tee shot on it,” advises Gilroy, “and should have a good look for birdie.”

Hole No. 14 – If you’re looking for a “grip it and rip it” hole at Tradition, this one fits the bill. “This is a straightaway par 5 that’s not too long, and if you hit the downslope of the fairway it will run out a long way and give you a short-ish shot to maybe get home in two,” Gilroy says. “There is water short of the green but if you cover (and reach the green in regulation), it should leave a barely breaking putt for birdie.”
