The Play Golf Myrtle Beach team made the rounds again this past week, and we’ve got more photos to share! David Williams made several stops, including the home of the Myrtle Beach Classic, The Dunes Golf & Beach Club; the Pete & P.B. Dye signature design at Prestwick; and “The Granddaddy” of Myrtle Beach golf, Pine Lakes Country Club.

Myrtle Beach’s South Strand is home to some of the region’s most prominent courses. Caledonia, TPC Myrtle Beach, True Blue and Pawleys Plantation read like a “who’s who” of the area’s best, but in the shadow of those headlining layouts are a host of the area’s quiet stars.

As group leaders prepare for a Myrtle Beach golf trip, they have a multitude of options to help them plan. Traditionally, they worked through hotels, but over time, third party packagers, serving as a conduit between golf courses, accommodations properties and golfers have emerged.

May River (Bluffton, S.C.) outlasted a strong push from upstate rival Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.) to capture the team title at the Style Driver Girls High School Palmetto Tournament of Champions Sept. 14-15 at True Blue Golf Club.

The Play Golf Myrtle Beach team made the rounds again this past week, and we’ve got more photos to share! David Williams and Jim Maggio each stopped by Tom Jackson signature designs: David at Arrowhead in the heart of The Beach, and Jim Maggio at River Club in Pawleys Island.

In the early 1960s, sports agent Mark McCormack secured golf’s biggest names as his clients. In doing so, he labeled his A-list stable of Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player as “The Big 3” – creating a moniker and brand that has symbolized the best in golf to this day. And with each of “The Big 3” making his impact on the Myrtle Beach golf scene along the way, it got us thinking about the three biggest takeaways you can expect from your next Myrtle Beach golf trip that includes a Player, Palmer or Nicklaus signature design on the itinerary.

The Campbell University Women’s Golf Team and Arkansas State Men’s Golf Team each secured championship trophies at the 2024 Golfweek Fall Challenge this week at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and True Blue Golf Club. For the Campbell women, the victory marked a milestone in the career of National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee John Crooks, who earned his 100^th career win as a women’s college golf coach.

Santa Clara University led wire-to-wire this week, besting 13 additional men’s collegiate squads after 54 holes of play to capture the inaugural Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate at Grande Dunes Resort Course in Myrtle Beach.

Chris Gotterup accepted the winner’s trophy at the inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic, but he wasn’t the only winner at the area’s first-ever PGA TOUR event. The event was a big hit, drawing more than 40,000 spectators during a week of perfect weather that helped showcase The Dunes Golf & Beach Club. In addition, nine local charities shared $225,000, with seven of those receiving at least $26,750.
