Golfers at “The World’s Largest 19th Hole” for the World Am, Myrtle Beach’s top tournament for the everyman golfer

Myrtle Beach is known as “The Golf Capital of the World” for good reason, having been the nation’s most sought-after golf destination for decades and recently being named among the top five on the planet. It should come as no surprise, then, that Myrtle Beach is also home to many of the best golf tournaments on the planet that cater to the casual, recreational golfer.

Family Golf Week includes both the Father & Son Team Classic and Parent & Child Team Classic, with each boasting a 54-hole competition in Myrtle Beach every July and hosted at eight of the Grand Strand’s most in-demand layouts. Each participant get three rounds of golf along with food, drinks and gifts valuing more than $500. This tournament is all about good old-fashioned family bonding – and fun!

Attracting nearly 700 players annually, the Golf Buddy Veterans Classic is all about giving our friends in the military a chance to relish a few days hitting the links and sharing lifetime memories.  No matter the branch of service, all veterans are welcome to take part in a unique, two-person team experience played on several of Myrtle Beach’s most requested designs.

Another military-centric event is the National Retired Military Golf Classic, geared more specifically to retired veterans with 20 or more years of service. It’s an individual entry event that places players with new foursome members on each day of play, where they form new relationships and share memories with fellow men and women of service. This tournament celebrates its 40th year of play in 2023!

Now with nearly 800 players competing each year, the Short Par 4 Fall Classic caps Myrtle Beach’s tournament season in November with a top-tier golf experience for players of all skill levels.  For nine years, players have competed in this 72-hole event that includes four rounds of play at many of the Grand Strand’s top designs, a gift package that now includes a Short Par 4 stand bag and $50 restaurant group gift card, and more. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better deal or experience!

You didn’t think we’d leave out the ultimate Myrtle Beach golf tournament experience, did you? Also entering its 40th anniversary year of play, the PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship remains not only the largest amateur golf tournament in the world, it’s also the most fun and most valuable! With more than 3,000 golfers competing on more than 50 Myrtle Beach golf courses across four days of play (five, if you qualify for the Flight Winners’ Playoff), World Am golfers return year after year to compete by day and be entertained by night at “The World’s Largest 19th Hole” at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center featuring live music, exhibitors, a wide range of entertainment and plenty of food, beer, wine and spirits. This one is truly a “bucket list” experience for so many vacation golfers.

Next time you get the itch for some tournament play in your golfing life, be sure to check out one (or more) of these great events!
