Big Break Myrtle Beach Episode 4 Recap: Anthony Talks the Talk and Walks and Walk

October 28, 2014

The competition moved to the par 3 sixth hole on Barefoot Resort’s Dye Club. Captain’s matched up players in a closest to the pin contest, and the team that won each round got to eliminate a contestant from the opposing side. The last team with a player standing would be declared the victor.

What could’ve been an exciting challenge quickly turned into a rout. Katy’s team won the first four rounds, leaving only Jimmy to defend Team Toph’s honor. Jimmy eliminated Katy H but was quickly dispatched by Emily, who secured immunity for her team.

Team Toph then moved to the ninth hole on the Dye Course where two lines were painted, one 50 yards from the tee, the other 130 yards out. Players could hit up to 10 balls, assuming each shot went further than the last one and didn’t end up outside the painted lines. Essentially it was a high stakes ladder drill and whoever hit the most shots would be the winner.

Dave finished last and punched his ticket to the elimination challenge.

Anthony and Toph tied, each hitting nine shots between the lines, and Toph won a playoff, securing his immunity and guaranteeing he would be around for at least one more week.

At this point Angry Anthony, Coldly Calculating Anthony or Horribly Immature Anthony emerged (you can decide which one you think he is). He slammed his club into his bag and told the four remaining contestants he would hate to send someone home, practically daring Dave to choose him.

He also poked at Carolin for shedding tears after hitting a poor shot, further drawing the ire of his cast mates.

Of course, Dave chose to play Anthony, who told him: Best of luck. I know this means more to you than it does me because I’m a little younger.

Ouch.

Anthony clearly believes much more in himself than he does karma.

The two-hole elimination challenge was played on the fourth and fifth holes on the Dye Course and it was decided by one shot.

They started on the fourth hole and Anthony blocked his drive into a waste bunker and chunked the ball coming out, leaving himself 30 yards short of the green. With his fellow players quietly relishing his possible departure, Anthony chipped in for birdie!

Dave two putted for par, and they both made pars on No. 5, sending Dave home after a one-stroke loss.

How did Anthony celebrate his victory? By walking over to his fellow players and lecturing them on the dangers of challenging him.

Anthony, who seemingly subscribes to the no publicity is bad publicity school of PR, has clearly succeeded in his goal of drawing attention to himself.

The just eliminated Dave delivered the most appropriate response, telling Anthony, “You will grow up someday. I hope so.”

Who knows if karma will bite Anthony down the road, but he isn’t going to grow up before Big Break Myrtle Beach is complete and he is still alive. Through a combination of good fortune and good play, he is among the group of players that seem to have the best shot of winning.
