Coastal Finishes Second At General Hackler Invitational, ETSU Triumphs

ETSU team low res.jpgThe Coastal Carolina University men's golf team posted the best final round and moved up three spots to finish as runner-up at the 2010 General Hackler Championship, March 15. Hosted by the Chanticleers, the two-day, 54-hole event was played at Coastal's home course, the TPC of Myrtle Beach (Par 72 – 6,950 yards) in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

Coastal shot a 3-over 291 in the final round and finished at 22-over 886, three shots behind champion East Tennessee State at 883, who shot 296 in the last 18. Augusta State was third at 892, with Pepperdine (894) and Wake Forest (895) rounding out the top five teams.
 

Senior Dan Obremski led the Chanticleers in a tie for third at even-par 216, one shot behind co-medalists Seamus Power of East Tennessee State and Pepperdine's Josh Anderson. Freshman Charlie Winegardner also posted a top-20 finish, tying for 20th at 226 after a team-best 69 in the final round, while senior Sam Lyons tied for 27th at 228. Freshman Sebastian Soderberg was next in a tie for 31st at 229, with redshirt-sophomore Drew Ernst rounding out the team scoring in a tie for 60th at 240.

The Chanticleers also had three individuals in the field. Freshman Anders Larson tied for 17th at 225. Redshirt-freshman Daily Young posted back-to-back sub-par rounds with a 71 and 70 in the last two 18s, including an ace on the par-3 7th hole on Monday, to tie for 27th at 228. Redshirt-sophomore Alan Lee was the final individual for Coastal, tying for 66th at 246.

Coastal will next be in action Friday-Sunday, March 26-28 at the Linger Longer. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is hosted by Kennesaw State at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga.
