Taking a Myrtle Beach golf trip this fall doesn’t mean you have to be away from your favorite team. Myrtle Beach is filled with sports bars that carry the NFL Sunday Ticket and cater to fans from other cities who brought their football allegiances with them.
If you are taking a Myrtle Beach golf trip and are a fan of the Steelers, Giants, Redskins, Browns or Eagles, here are places you can go to find friendly faces this fall.
* Pittsburgh Steelers: Fans from the Steel City are all over the Grand Strand, and there are several bars where you can catch the Steelers in action. If you have your choice, check out Oscar's in North Myrtle Beach, where fans paint the bar with a fresh coat of black and gold whenever the Steelers go to the Super Bowl. Those in Myrtle Beach can visit Murphy's Law, and on the south end Murphy's Law South in Garden City Beach are popular Steeler hangouts.
* New York Giants: There also are thousands of New Yorkers who have made their new home on the Grand Strand and you'll usually find a few at just about every sports bar in the area. But the new home of the G-Men Nation has become Shamrock's on the corner of Kings Highway and 26th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach.
* Washington Redskins: The Redskins a fan favorite in the area before the Carolina Panthers came along because it was the closest NFL franchise to Myrtle Beach besides the then-lowly Atlanta Falcons. But with the addition of many transplants from the D.C. area, the Redskins Nation has found a home at Dagwood's Deli and Bumstead's Pub on Joe White Avenue. Booths with their own TVs draw fans of all teams, but Redskins fans outnumber them all.
* Cleveland Browns: Browns Backer Clubs have been created all over the nation, but there's a die-hard group of Ohio transplants and visitors at Drifter's Saloon on the corner of Kings Highway and 30th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach. Browns jerseys and Ohio State memorabilia line the walls and the crowd dresses appropriately for football weekends. The club even holds raffle drawings as a fund-raiser for local charities during the Browns' games.
* Philadelphia Eagles: Eagles fans who flew south to Myrtle Beach and never went back love to gather at Foster's Cafe & Bar at the corner of Kings Highway and 64th Avenue North. In fact, the owners are hard-core Philly fans who make sure the Eagles are on the big screen whenever they play. One word of warning: Virtually all the bartenders and many of the customers are fans of the Keystone State-rival Steelers, which creates some good-natured heckling.
