Five Things You Need to Know About Oyster Bay

Oyster Bay Myrtle beach golfBefore you tee it up at Oyster Bay here are five thing you need to know.

1. Oyster Bay was a North Strand trailblazer, convincing golfers the short drive from Myrtle Beach is a minor inconvenience when quality golf is the reward. The layout is the oldest in Brunswick County and its success paved the way for the neighboring courses that have made the area a vital component of the Myrtle Beach golf scene.

2. By the time players arrive at the 15th hole, the first of two islands greens, confronting water shouldn’t be an issue. Water and marshland are prevalent throughout, coming into play on 15 of 18 holes. Be prepared to face the challenge.

3. With several holes that play along the Calabash River and the trademark oyster shells ringing the island green 17th, you will leave Oyster Bay with unforgettable visuals etched in your mind. The layout is memorable for the quality of its design and beauty, a winning combination for golfers.

4. Yes, the alligators are real! Alligators aren’t as common on the North Strand, but Oyster Bay is the exception. There are multiple gators on hole 17 and No. 14 is the home of the property’s reigning king, an approximately 13-foot long monster!

5. Oyster Bay is a classically designed golf course. The tree-lined fairways and small greens stand in contrast to the expansive nature of most modern designs. It’s an outstanding course, but don’t be fooled by the yardage. At first glance, Oyster Bay, a Myrtle Beach golf trip favorite, looks relatively short at 6,685 yards from the tips, but the layout is a par 70 so there is plenty of meat on the bone, even for the lowest of handicaps.
