Five Things You Need to Know About SouthCreek at Myrtle Beach National

June 19, 2012

SouthCreek at Myrtle Beach National is a player's favoriteKing’s North, which has been ranked among the 100 Greatest Public Courses in America, is the standard-bearer at Myrtle Beach National, a three-course facility that is one of the Grand Strand’s flagship properties. But SouthCreek and the West Course are 4-star layouts in their own right.

Before you next tee it up at Myrtle Beach National (MBN), here are five reasons you don’t want to overlook the player-friendly SouthCreek Course.

1. King’s North grabs the headlines, but SouthCreek is the member’s favorite at MBN. With forced carries, water hazards and cavernous bunkers at a minimum, SouthCreek is a fun layout to play and it offers the opportunity to score well.

2. The fairways at SouthCreek aren’t exceedingly narrow, but success at the Arnold Palmer-designed layout is dependent upon finding the short grass. Hit the ball straight off the tee and a very manageable approach shot will almost always greet you in the fairway.

3. SouthCreek’s front nine makes for a great start, but the strength of the course is in its closing holes. Holes 14-18 are outstanding, providing ample opportunities to score but challenging golfers to play the right shots. From the short, par 4 14th hole to the 18th and its mounded fairway, SouthCreek finishes with a flourish.

4. SouthCreek has one characteristic every player seeks in a course – great greens. The layout was the first at MBN to covert to MiniVerde Bermudagrass greens and it proved to be an outstanding move. The greens are as fast and true as any on the Myrtle Beach golf scene.

5. In addition to hosting countless players on a Myrtle Beach golf trip, SouthCreek has also served as the host of the Chris Wilcox Charity Golf Outing. The long-time NBA player and NCAA Tournament champion and his celebrity friends host the event each year to raise money to fight Lupus.
