Forsyth Country Day Wins 16th Annual Palmetto HS Golf ChampionshipForsyth Country Day shot a 295 on the Rees Jones Course at Sea Trail Golf Plantation to win the 16th annual Palmetto High School Golf Championship. Forsyth shot a team total of 602 to edge Forestview High School by two strokes. (Complete team and individual results: Championship Flight, First Flight)

Ben Schlottman of Forsyth Country Day shot a 4 under-par 68 on Saturday and birdied the first playoff hole – the par 5 18th on the Jones Course – to edge Forestview’s Will Blalock for medalist honors in the championship flight. The duo shot a two-day total of 143.

St. Joseph High School shot a 316 on the Willard Byrd Course to win the first flight, beating Statesville by six shots. Vijay Mishra of North Myrtle Beach won first flight medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 153.

The Palmetto is a 54-hole, college-style event that allows high school teams to test themselves against opponents from across the nation. Play opened with a qualifying round on the Fazio and Norman courses at Barefoot Resort on Thursday. 

Teams were then flighted, according to score, for the final 36 holes of competition.

The first round was played on the Love and Norman courses at Barefoot. The championship round was played on the Willard Byrd and Rees Jones courses at Sea Trail Plantation.

All five host courses have earned at least 4 stars in Golf Digest’s prestigious Best Places to Play guide, and the Fazio and Love courses have been ranked among America’s Top 100 public layouts.

Teams from California, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina and Virginia participated in the popular Myrtle Beach golf tournament.  


Current PGA Tour players Rickie Fowler, the 2006 champion, and Harris English are among the Palmetto’s most distinguished alums.
