Hot List: Top 5 Restaurants at Barefoot Resort

July 16, 2012

Barefoot Landing has long been known as one of the prime entertainment centers on the Myrtle Beach golf scene, but the restaurant lineup is also drawing crowds these days.

Several new eateries have opened at Barefoot in recent years. Here are five that won't let you down:

* Fire Island Grille: Experience a taste of the islands on your next Myrtle Beach golf trip at this tiki-hut structure that serves unique dishes in a tropical setting.

The atmosphere is casual, with flame-lit tables and bamboo-laden decor setting an island vibe. The menu has all the fresh seafood and steaks one would expect, but prepared in creatively seasoned ways.

Fire Island also happens to be a happy hour hot spot, with discounted drinks and appetizers that attract a crowd.

* Flying Fish Public Market & Grill: Inspired by the Coastal Northwest's grotto-side seafood markets and diners, this place has the look and feel of the real deal.

A huge counter openly displays the fresh catches of the day on a bed of ice. Ask your server and they'll even let you toss around a fish or two.

* Greg Norman's Australian Grille: The Shark brings flavors from his native country to this upscale establishment overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway.

Fresh seafood and an array of steaks and chops are used to create inventive dishes inspired by the Land Down Under and Norman's personal favorites.

* House of Blues: Normally I don't recommend themed restaurants. Most of them are so focused on the theme that they miss the mark on the food.

Not so with House of Blues, which serves an eclectic mix of Cajun cooking and Southern soul food, like the excellent jambalaya and the melt-in-your-mouth ribs.

There's always live music going on at the HOB, and diners with concert tickets get priority first seating to the show. Also be sure to check out the Gospel Brunch every Sunday.

* Umberto's Pittsburgh Italian Trattoria: Local lovers of Italian food swear by this North Myrtle Beach institution, and visitors have heard the word as well.

Umberto’s brings the tastes of Italian-American dishes to the masses without losing the family atmosphere and excellent food. Italian classics like lasagna and linguini with clams are staples of Umberto's diverse menu.
