MarshWalk-Friendly: 4 Murrells Inlet Courses Near the Famed Post-Round Stop

Wachesaw Plantation East

When golfers discuss Myrtle Beach’s South Strand, attention immediately turns to Pawleys Island, but savvy group leaders often bring their charges to Murrells Inlet.

Home to four courses and the famed MarshWalk – a half-mile long boardwalk that features some of the area’s most popular bars and restaurants – Murrells Inlet delivers on and off the course.

Enjoy a closer look at the quartet of layouts that call Murrells Inlet home.

Blackmoor Golf Club is nine-time major championship winner Gary Player’s only Myrtle Beach design and it’s one players don’t forget. The course rewards precision as opposed to raw power, providing golfers with choices, including one of the area’s most memorable risk-reward decisions. Played conventionally, the par-4 eighth hole is a 90-degree dogleg right, but Player cut a chute through the trees, tempting golfers to cut the dogleg and take dead aim at the green just 270 yards away. Beware, the opening is only 30 yards wide and balls that stray inside the tree line, on either side, could lead to a big score.

 – International Club is one of the area’s hidden gems, delivering the quality and value Myrtle Beach has long been renowned for. The Willard Byrd design has five sets of tees, allowing golfers of all skill levels to enjoy a layout that opened in 2000. International Club earned four stars in Golf Digest’s Best Places to Play guide, highlighting its appeal.

TPC Myrtle Beach is on any shortlist of the area’s premier courses. The Lanny Wadkins-Tom Fazio design has hosted a Senior PGA Tour Championship, a NCAA Tournament regional championship, and it’s the annual home of the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship, events that showcase a facility designed to provide a Tour-quality experience. TPC Myrtle Beach is a bucket list golf course.

– Clyde Johnston-designed Wachesaw Plantation East has delighted the world’s best women golfers and it’s more than capable of doing the same for your group. Wachesaw Plantation East hosted a LPGA Tournament every year from 1997 through 2000, and World Golf Hall of Famer Karrie Webb captured two of her 41 career wins on the course. Wachesaw is a shot-makers layout, rewarding discipline and creativity.

Golfers could build an outstanding trip around this quartet of Murrells Inlet layouts.
