Mercer, Campbell Take Commanding Leads at Golfweek Fall Challenge

Mercer University matched Sunday’s strong play in the men’s division in Monday’s Round 2, while Campbell University was one of two women’s teams to break par today as each strengthened their respective leads at the 2021 Golfweek Fall Challenge at True Blue Golf Club and Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.

Mercer (-29) holds a 17-stroke advantage in men’s play at True Blue over nearest challenger Delaware, with Temple (-11), Jacksonville State (-9) and Tennessee Tech (-9) lurking as well. In women’s division play at Caledonia, Campbell (-6) is the only team under par after two rounds of play with Jacksonville State (+3), Central Arkansas (+7), Lipscomb (+9) and East Carolina (+10) rounding out the current top five.

Thirty-eight NCAA Division I collegiate golf teams have descended upon the Grand Strand this week to compete in a 54-hole event hosted by the South Strand’s elite Mike Strantz designs. Nine colleges and universities are represented by teams in both the men’s and women’s divisions: Jacksonville State, Delaware, Wofford, Tennessee Tech, Campbell, USC Upstate, Presbyterian, Stephen F. Austin and Gardner-Webb.

The public is welcome to attend, with Tuesday’s Round 3 tee times set to begin at 7:45 a.m. at each course.
