Mike & Mike, Myrtle Beach Golf Trip Cures Homesickness For Contest Winner

April 12, 2012

Mike Greenberg & Mike Golic traveled to Myrtle Beach for the Monday After the MastersAndrew Marshall had been planning to take a Myrtle Beach golf trip with a few friends from Cleveland.

Little did he know that he would win the perfect weekend on the links for him and a few new friends – Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic, co-hosts of the “Mike & Mike In The Morning” show.

The graduate student and cross country assistant coach at Salem College in Winston-Salem, N.C., was chosen to meet the TV/radio personalities at the Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am at Barefoot Resort and he played in the event with Golic. It was like a dream trip come true.

“I listen to them on the radio all the time and I went on their website and signed up for the contest, but I didn't think much about it,” Marshall recalled. “I got a call over St. Patrick's Day while I was out of town and I thought it was a joke, but then I got a call again the following Monday and it was real.”

Marshall, who recently moved from his native Cleveland to Winston-Salem, had been feeling a bit homesick and was hoping to get together with some friends for golf in Myrtle Beach. That's part of what made the all-expenses paid trip so special.

“Golic is from Cleveland, so we hit it off from the start,” Marshall said. “I got there early during the broadcast (live from Barefoot Resort) and got to meet them and hang out. It was just like playing with old friends.”

His foursome didn't contend for the title, but it may have had the most fun. Golic's good-natured ribbing carried over to the group and surrounding foursomes on the Dye Course, and the good times carried over to the After Party at the House of Blues.

“We got to hang out at the concert with a lot of the people we met during the tournament and we had a great time,” Marshall said. “The whole weekend was great – four nights in the hotel, two rounds of golf and all the parties. I had a flat tire on the way home but it was well worth it for the weekend.”

Marshall says he will carry the memories back home with him, and they may bring him back to Myrtle Beach for another golf vacation in the near future.

“I had been trying to get some friends to come down for a golf trip, and after seeing how nice it is in Myrtle Beach and how many nice courses there are, I hope to be back down there for some more golf sometime soon,” he said.
