Charlie Rymer:

So the area that we refer to as Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is actually comprised of eight or nine different communities. It runs from Georgetown, South Carolina, well into Brunswick County, North Carolina. It’s roughly 70 miles from top to bottom. Now where we are today is slap dab in the middle. This actually is Myrtle Beach. So we have great access to the amenities on the south side and the north side from right here in the middle. We’re at Grande Dunes. Tell me about Grande Dunes.

Jason Potter:

We are. We are in Myrtle Beach proper. We’re at the Grande Dunes residential resort community here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Grande Dunes is known for its luxury lifestyle and luxury homes. So you have, Charlie, home sites ranging anywhere from the high $400,000 up to $4 million and up. You’ve got patio homes, regular residential detached homes, and even oceanfront private villas. So it’s really, really interesting how dynamic it is.

Jason Potter:

But I think rather than just the homes and how beautiful they are, I think really what attracts people to the Grande Dunes residential community is the lifestyle, having access to a private oceanfront clubhouse. It’s 25,000 square feet. I know you love it. But also having access to the waterway and the golf course. It’s really what people expect when they’re looking to relocate and retire to the Grande Strand, getting everywhere on a golf cart. What wouldn’t you love about it?

Charlie Rymer:

Well, this is a beautiful home. Let’s have a little closer look, come on. Jason, we are in what is the heart of every home, the kitchen.

Jason Potter:

Sure.

Charlie Rymer:

And I look around and I see everything I’d want in a kitchen. And I just love the way this space makes me feel. Tell me about this kitchen.

Jason Potter:

It’s hard not to be happy in this kitchen. This is a true custom home here in Grande Dunes, right? We are starting to see quartz instead of granite. We used to always do granite. Now people want quartz. Something that we’re seeing in a lot of the newer home communities here along the Grande Strand, is natural gas. That’s something we didn’t use to feature. We used to have to do propane or electric. Now we have natural gas, which is nice.

Jason Potter:

But you’ll notice the floor plan. It’s very open. We used to close homes off. Now people want to entertain while they cook, and they want the games on, right, or the matches. And it’s just so nice in this house, how open it is and all the attention to detail that they did.

Charlie Rymer:

We’re definitely cooking with gas in this kitchen.

Jason Potter:

Oh, yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

And my eye is drawn towards this timber right here.

Jason Potter:

It’s a beautiful piece.

Charlie Rymer:

Tell me about this piece.

Jason Potter:

Yeah. This is a beautiful piece. And certainly a talking point for the homeowners and guests when they come. This is actually cedar. So the developer has partnered with a local carpenter in town, very, very talented individual. And if a homeowner, while designing the house, wants some sort of feature (how could you not?), wants a feature like this, they can go visit the carpenter, tell them their concept and idea, and they’ll take measurements and he’ll surprise them and design this.

Jason Potter:

So this again is cedar. And what you’ll notice throughout the house, Charlie, is that they’ve continued this style in different accent pieces throughout the entire home.

Charlie Rymer:

It’s magnificent.

Jason Potter:

It’s beautiful.

Charlie Rymer:

I love standing here in the kitchen.

Jason Potter:

Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

You got plenty of seating area there. We’ve got wonderful dining all while looking over the Intracoastal. I can’t wait to see what else you have for me here.

Jason Potter:

I’m excited to show it to you.

Charlie Rymer:

So Jason, we’re in the owner’s suite. Here’s a problem I’ve got with this owner’s suite.

Jason Potter:

Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

If I lived here, I might not ever leave this owner’s suite. It’s awesome.

Jason Potter:

Yeah. How do you not love, every morning just waking up to that view, and going to bed? And I’m glad you pointed that out, Charlie, you’re a big guy. You feel really comfortable in here. This is a lot of space and we’re starting to see that trend now with, especially people building custom homes, they’re starting to make these rooms instead of just where they go to bed. And they certainly did that here in this custom model home. Hey Charlie, come check this out.

Charlie Rymer:

You got it.

Jason Potter:

I know how much you love your golden retriever.

Charlie Rymer:

Man. This is incredible. You can’t imagine how hard it is-

Jason Potter:

Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

… to find a decent place outside, especially in the winter-

Jason Potter:

Right.

Charlie Rymer:

… to give your dogs a bath and to bring them in here in this laundry room and give them a bath right here.

Jason Potter:

Yeah. It’s incredible. You know, Charlie, this is just such a beautiful custom home, isn’t it?

Charlie Rymer:

It’s got everything you could possibly want in a home here in Myrtle Beach, or anywhere for that matter.

Jason Potter:

Yeah. It’s truly stunning. And what’s not to like? There’s so many wonderful custom features. They’re not all like this in Grande Dunes, but some of the sections within the Grande Dunes master community, really highlight what it means to build a custom home.

Charlie Rymer:

Let’s finish up where I would spend most of my time if I owned this house.

Jason Potter:

Let’s go outside. Beautiful, isn’t it?

Charlie Rymer:

I got to tell you. I love the house, and the view of this Intracoastal, it never gets old. But-

Jason Potter:

It’s beautiful.

Charlie Rymer:

… tell me a little bit big picture about Grande Dunes, because there are a lot of amenities here.

Jason Potter:

Sure, Charlie. The house is gorgeous, but I’m glad you brought up Grande Dunes. That’s really what sets this residential neighborhood apart from some of the others, is the lifestyle that it offers. So being a part of this section of Grande Dunes, it’s called Waterside Edge, and you actually get access to the Del Webb Community Amenity Center. So you have the indoor pool facilities, the outdoor pools, the bocce ball, the pickle ball courts.

Jason Potter:

It’s just really fun. And as you know, you can golf cart to pretty much anything.

Charlie Rymer:

Yeah

Jason Potter:

You can golf cart to the grocery store, to the drug store. It’s just really nice. But I think what’s most special is the Grande Dunes oceanfront clubhouse.

Charlie Rymer:

Now you’re talking.

Jason Potter:

Yeah, it’s a 25,000 square foot building that has a restaurant inside. It has a nice oasis outdoor, a place to grab some burgers and wraps in the spring and summer. Pools of course. But it’s that exclusiveness that I think that people enjoy being a part of Grande Dunes. Some of the communities are gated, but really the access to the Intracoastal and to the ocean. What’s not to love about that?

Charlie Rymer:

Well, what is really all about though, is the golf.

Jason Potter:

Yes, it is. Let’s go check that out.

Charlie Rymer:

You got it.

Jason Potter:

So Charlie, we had a great opportunity to look at some wonderful homes here in Grande Dunes, but now we’re in your stomping grounds, the golf course.

Charlie Rymer:

Yes we are. There’s 36 holes here at Grande Dunes today. We’re at the Resort Club, really neat facility. This golf course was designed by Roger Rulewich. And it has been consistently ranked in top 100 public golf courses in the entire country.

Jason Potter:

Sure.

Charlie Rymer:

And in fact, it’s been named as a golf course of the year as well. Couple of the main characteristics of this golf course.

Jason Potter:

Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

Wide fairways. I love wide fairways. The older I get the more crooked I hit it.

Jason Potter:

Sure.

Charlie Rymer:

Not only selfishly do I like them for me, but I like them for folks who come play golf every day, because it really cuts down on how long it takes a round of golf to be played. Nobody wants to come out here-

Jason Potter:

No.

Charlie Rymer:

… for an Easter egg hunt and there’s still-

Jason Potter:

Sure.

Charlie Rymer:

… plenty of challenge out there.

Jason Potter:

Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

But I love those wide fairways. And then the other thing that people rave about here are the views. This is absolutely a magnificent golf course. Not only is it built right along the Intracoastal, but it’s built on high bluffs above the Intracoastal. You just can’t believe how far above the surface of the water you are.

Jason Potter:

Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

And it’s a place you want to make sure you got your camera, because when you come play golf here at Grande Dunes, you’re going to want to take plenty of pictures.

Jason Potter:

Well, you’re exactly right. We don’t have many golf courses and holes that sit up on bluffs here along the Grand Strand, and Grande Dunes has those. My favorite, really, is the par three, number 14. You’ve got the beautiful waterway on the right hand side. But sometimes you get a little nervous teeing it up on that par three with the water, give some tips.

Charlie Rymer:

Yeah. So there’s quite a few holes here where you have trouble on one side, that Intracoastal.

Jason Potter:

Yes.

Charlie Rymer:

And so, one of the things to remember about that, is when you go to a practice tee and you’re warming up maybe to play golf here, or maybe-

Jason Potter:

Right.

Charlie Rymer:

… your home course has trouble on one side, you got to have a go-to shot.

Jason Potter:

Okay.

Charlie Rymer:

A shot that eliminates one side of the golf course. And what I want people to do when they go to the practice tee is imagine on the tree line or the rough cut line of that practice area, that’s where the Intracoastal is.

Jason Potter:

Okay.

Charlie Rymer:

Okay. And I want you to aim at it and swing towards it.

Jason Potter:

Okay.

Charlie Rymer:

I know that’s counterintuitive.

Jason Potter:

Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

You’re swinging left with trouble on the left. That’s going to put spin on the ball that takes it away from the trouble.

Jason Potter:

Almost like a nice cut, yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

Yeah. And you do the opposite for trouble that’s on the right. You swing out towards the trouble to the right. And that’ll put spin on the ball that takes it away from the trouble. So, if you practice that technique-

Jason Potter:

Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

… learn to trust it, you can eliminate one side of a golf course almost completely. Our friends from up north when they come visit-

Jason Potter:

Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

… they’re a little perplexed by the Bermuda grass.

Jason Potter:

Right. We’re standing on it.

Charlie Rymer:

They don’t quite get the Bermuda grass-

Jason Potter:

Right.

Charlie Rymer:

… on the greens. We’ll get into that in another show. But in particular, the rough that’s around the greens.

Jason Potter:

Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

And they come into it and, Thinking, okay, I’ve got to chip this ball.

Jason Potter:

Sure.

Charlie Rymer:

They put it their back in their stance, the hands forward, and they don’t have any success at all.

Jason Potter:

Right.

Charlie Rymer:

Either it doesn’t go anywhere, or it goes way too far.

Jason Potter:

That’s right.

Charlie Rymer:

When you’re nestled down in Bermuda grass around the greens-

Jason Potter:

Okay.

Charlie Rymer:

… think of it as like a bunker shot.

Jason Potter:

Really.

Charlie Rymer:

So I’m going to take some loft, I’m going to put it up in my stance, and I’m going to chop down behind that ball almost intentionally, hit it fat. What that does is that gets the ball up in the air quickly and it has no spin. And when it hits very quickly on the green, it’ll start rolling like a putt.

Jason Potter:

Amazing.

Charlie Rymer:

So it’s all about the technique.

Jason Potter:

Amazing.

Charlie Rymer:

Yeah. Try those two things.

Jason Potter:

Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:

And I guarantee you, you’ll have more fun, not only playing Grande Dunes, but any place you tee it up.

Jason Potter:

So Charlie, I got to remember those tips, hit towards the trouble, and play the rough shots like a bunker shot.

Charlie Rymer:

Bingo.

Jason Potter:

You promise?

Charlie Rymer:

Guaranteed to help you out.

Jason Potter:

You promise.

Charlie Rymer:

Absolutely.

Jason Potter:

Well, thank you so much. I’ll definitely use those. And so, we wrapped the golf course. We got to see some beautiful homes here on Grande Dunes property. And there’s no secret Grande Dunes is one of the top residential communities here along the Grand Strand!
