Myrtle Beach Golf Buzz: Tommy Bahama, a Market Common Island Worth Visiting

August 23, 2012

Myrtle Beach Golf Buzz Tommy BahamaMarket Common has grown into one of the area’s most popular destinations for Myrtle Beach golfers, its combination of outstanding dining and nightlife proving a powerful lure. One of the town center-like development’s anchor establishments is Tommy Bahama, a company more immediately recognizable for the quality of its clothing. But the accompanying restaurant at Market Common is one of the area’s best. In this installment of the Myrtle Beach Golf Buzz, host Blair O’Neal pays a visit to Tommy Bahama and samples its eclectic menu.

Blair O'Neal: Hi, my name is Blair O'Neal, host of the Golf Buzz, presented by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. Today I'm with Eric Kuhary, General Manager of Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar.

Eric, thanks for having us today.

Eric Kuhary: Absolutely. It's our pleasure.

Blair: Can you tell us a little bit about the restaurant?

Eric: Absolutely. Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar, there are 13 Tommy Bahamas throughout the United States. We're located in Market Common in Myrtle Beach. We are located right next to our
Tommy Bahama retail store.  With every Tommy Bahama Restaurant, there is a retail store attached to it and we call them our “islands.”

Blair: Sounds good to me. So you can eat. You can shop. Drinks?

Eric: Drink and shop as well.

Blair: Okay, there you go. So, you order a cocktail, head over to the store, sip and shop, shop and sip. Sounds like a good plan to me.

Eric: And we have ours in front of us.

Blair: Yes. So, why don't you tell us about your featured dish? Is this one of the most popular dishes?

Eric: It is. It is.  This is our macadamia nut-crusted snapper. It looks delicious. It's excellent. The snapper is caught off the Carolina Coast. It is served with a, wasabi soy butter, grilled asparagus, with a garlic-lemon oil and island rice.

Blair: It smells really good, too. I'm really excited to try this dish. Do you have a happy hour here?

Eric: Yes, we do. Tommy Bahama's version of happy hour is called “Island Time.” We offer great drink and food specials in our bar. It's from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. It's a great place to hang out. We have live music most nights.

Blair: Nice.

Eric: So, please come and join us.

Blair: Speaking of drinks. What do we have here?

Eric: You have a Spiced Hurricane. It's a little spin on the traditional hurricane. It's made with spiced rum and then topped with a pineapple foam.

Blair: It looks delicious.

Eric: I've got in front of me a Pineapple Jalapeno Mojito. Again, just a twist on the classic mojito. The jalapeno in it certainly has a little kick to it. It's nice and refreshing and a great drink coming off the beach.

Blair: Looks very thirst-quenching and delicious, so how about we do a cheers?

Eric: Let's do one.

Blair: All right. Cheers. Thank you so much for having us.

Eric: Oh, our pleasure.

Blair: I'm Blaire O'Neill at the Golf Fest. Thanks again for joining us. Next time you're in Myrtle Beach, make sure to stop by Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar.
