Myrtle Beach Golf Hole of the Week: True Blue Golf Club, No. 4

April 2, 2017

The fourth hole at True Blue is one of the course's best Ranked among America’s top 100 public courses by Golf Magazine, Golf Channel’s Matt Ginella and MyGolfSpy.com, True Blue Golf Club is every bit as good as its press clippings suggest. But even on a course this highly regarded, certain holes standout, which is where our Myrtle Beach golf hole of the week comes into play.

The fourth hole at True Blue, one of the best par 5s on the Myrtle Beach golf scene, is one you will never forget, and here is everything you need to know about it.

No. 4

Par 5
Handicap:
5
Yardage: 548 yards (black tees), 523 yards (blue tees), 493 yards (white tees), 438 yards (gold tees), 417 yards (red tees)

The fourth is as intimidating a hole – visually – as there is at True Blue. It’s beautiful as you stand on the tee surveying the horseshoe-shaped challenge that plays around a lake, and it presents golfers with decisions on every shot.

Playing 493 yards from the white tees, it’s not that long, but the water looms. Do you try to cut the lake and shorten the hole, or do you play it conservatively to ensure the water isn’t a factor off the tee? A conservative tee shot means the hole can play longer than 493 yards.

A good, aggressive shot will allow long hitters the opportunity to consider going for it in two, but it’s all carry and the green, while deep, isn’t wide. For those who play it safe, an approach to the narrow, multi-tiered green awaits.

The green on the fourth hole is flanked by water on the left and grass swales on the right. Given that the putting surface cants from right to left, chipping from the starboard side can be unnerving.

The fourth is the type of hole that makes True Blue so special. If you challenge this Mike Strantz designed masterpiece, let us know how you do.
