A full field of 238 players descends upon the Grand Strand golf scene next week to kick off Myrtle Beach’s 2023 tournament season by teeing it up in the Brittain Resorts Classic.
Tournament entries are comprised of 119 two-person teams, with three flights of competitors playing on four sets of tees (Men’s, Women’s, Senior Men’s, Super Senior Men’s), with an average team index of 23.33 (11.66 avg. player). The Brittain Resorts Classic is being contested at each of nine popular Myrtle Beach layouts, with Arrowhead, Barefoot-Norman and Wachesaw Plantation East hosting Monday’s round (best ball format); Shaftesbury Glen, Founders Club at Pawleys Island and Crown Park hosting Tuesday play (modified alternate shot); and Long Bay, Tradition Club and True Blue hosting final-round play on Wednesday (Texas scramble).
Myrtle Beach’s early-season tournaments are a great way for traveling golfers from wintry climates to cure their cabin fever, with players from 25 states and Canada arriving from such faraway states as Minnesota and Arizona. Aside from entries from the Carolinas, five additional states are represented by 10 or more players – including 13 each from Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia, and 11 from Ohio.
Players will be greeted by ideal playing conditions, with the Myrtle Beach forecast calling for sunny skies, light winds and daily high temperatures in the low to mid 60s for the three days of play.
Each entry includes three rounds of tournament golf, a tournament gift apparel item, $50 gift card to Sea Captain’s House restaurant, a Sunday welcome lunch and awards lunch following Wednesday’s final round. Prizes are awarded to the top finishers in each flight, with daily contest prizes in each flight and random drawing prizes also up for grabs.
Each of nine premier Brittain Resorts properties offered special lodging rates for tournament participants, including Bay View on the Boardwalk, The Breakers Resort, Caribbean Resort & Villas, Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort, Grande Cayman Resort, North Beach Resort & Villas, Ocean Reef Resort, Paradise Resort and The Strand Myrtle Beach.
