Myrtle Beach Never Forgets: Firefighters Gather in Show of Brotherhood

More than 120 firefighters from around the nation, their families and friends have gathered once more this week at Barefoot Resort & Golf for the 2019 edition of the Myrtle Beach Never Forgets Memorial Golf Outing.

The event began in 2002 in the wake of the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, as the Myrtle Beach hospitality industry hosted countless first responders in providing respite from the task of restoring Ground Zero in New York City’s lower Manhattan. As part of that effort, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday launched a Memorial Golf Outing that established a relationship with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) that continues to this day.

The event has evolved over the years not only to its current name, but as a gradually broader effort that, in the 17 years since its inception, has attracted thousands of firefighters from New York City and throughout the country to celebrate their shared bond of brotherhood.

Tuesday’s round at the Love Course at Barefoot Resort follows a Monday evening kickoff party at Putter’s Pub, and is followed by the event’s Wednesday round at the Dye Course and post-round celebration at Ocean Creek Resort.
