Myrtle Beach’s Fall Golf Season Highlights the Best of the Grand Strand’s Outdoor Offerings

By Jim Maggio

Still on the fence about taking a fall golf trip to “The Golf Capital of the World”? No need to be – in fact, we’re here to offer up several compelling reasons why the fall golf season in Myrtle Beach is the preferred choice of so many vacation golfers, and why you should be “all in” on finalizing your plans right now!

From an overall playing conditions standpoint, the fall stretch from late September through mid-November may well be the best time of year for playing golf along the Grand Strand. The ideal effects of standard summer maintenance practices on Bermudagrass, the turf of choice for the overwhelming majority of Southeast region golf courses, are still in full bloom. Lush green fairways and roughs and smooth-rolling putting surfaces greet visiting golfers along with daily high temps in the low- to mid-70s.

If you’re a golfer who prefers the playing consistency of “pure” Bermudagrass conditions, October is one of the best months to take advantage. By early November, many courses begin overseeding fairways, tee boxes and primary roughs with ryegrass that remains in play through the winter and early spring months.

Off the course, the Grand Strand’s fall season is an especially glorious time to take full advantage of its many outdoor leisure activities and events. While the Grand Strand’s peak summer beach season brings millions of sun worshippers to our beautiful 60-mile stretch of white, sandy beach every year, the post-Labor Day scene offers far fewer crowds along the shoreline and ocean water temps to match the comfortable mid-70s feel of the surrounding air.

And the beach experience is so much more fulfilling when it includes the best of fall’s early- and late-day offerings. Humidity’s down in the fall, and you’ll find few of life’s simple pleasures more satisfying than waking up to refreshing a brilliant sunrise from over the Atlantic. And whether you prefer staying at a seaside resort or oceanfront home, the experience is truly complete if it includes a fire pit. Be sure to ask the resort or rental company you’re working with about the beachside fire pit options available to you.

Don’t forget that the Myrtle Beach area is also home to a wide array of popular outdoor festivals this month, including:

Oct. 5 – 21 – Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art

Oct. 14-15 – Little River ShrimpFest

Oct. 21 – 44th Annual Loris Bog-Off Festival

Oct. 20-22 – Myrtle Beach Jazz Festival

Oct. 20-22 – 6th Annual Myrtle Beach Jeep Jam
