North Raleigh Christian Academy Takes Team Lead in First Round of 2021 Palmetto High School Golf Championship

Paced by Jace Butcher’s 2-under round of 70, North Raleigh Christian Academy (+19) took a one-stroke lead over Boiling Springs and Frederica Academy in the team competition of the 2021 Palmetto High School Golf Championship at True Blue Golf Club.

Butcher was one of only three players to finish Thursday’s first round under par, along with Jackson Byrd of Frederica Academy and Ryan Cote of Pawleys Island, S.C., who’s competing as an individual.

Friday’s second-round action at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club tees off at 12:45 p.m., while Saturday’s final round returns to True Blue with tee times starting at 7:48 a.m.

The Palmetto is a collegiate-style tournament that features 13 teams from states including North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. The Palmetto returns after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled 2020 play, with Charlotte Christian School (N.C.) and 2018 Palmetto champion Boiling Springs (S.C.) among the top returning teams from the 2019 Palmetto. Past Palmetto participant Argyle Liberty Christian (Tex.) brings two squads to this year’s competition.
