Paige Spiranac at Classic Swing Golf School

During her most recent visit to the Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach golf ambassador Paige Spiranac paid a visit to Classic Swing Golf School at Legends Resort & Golf, to get a first-hand sense of what makes them unique among the area’s golf instruction facilities.

Paige: Hey everyone, it’s Paige Spiranac and today we have a very special guest.

Ted: Hi, I’m Ted Frick from the Classic Swing Golf School, located at the Legends Resort in Myrtle Beach.

Paige: It is absolutely stunning here. First time playing the golf course. How long have you been here?

Ted: I’ve been at this facility since 2001 and the Classic Swing Golf School started in Myrtle Beach in 1992.

Paige: Wow.

Ted: So I’m heading at 22 years doing what I love.

Paige: It’s amazing.

Ted: It’s cool. Yeah, it’s really good.

Paige: So how did you first get into teaching?

Ted: I’ll try not to be too long-winded but I came down here in ’88 from Baltimore City, chasing the dream of trying to play golf for a living. Found out how difficult it was-

Paige: All of us … yeah.

Ted: Right.

Paige: Try it out.

Ted: And I just pursued the PGA in 1990. In 1992 I started the golf school at Deer Track Golf Resort, south of here in Surfside Beach. And real quick, in 2000, Golf Magazine called us up and got us nominated as a top 25 golf school in the country and “boom,” the phone started to ring.

Paige: Yeah.

Ted: And that’s when we expanded up to this facility, which has been awesome because you can see everything that goes on out here, you know.

Paige: Yeah.

Ted: 30-acre driving range, three golf courses, three different architects, very unique setting. So it’s a great place to have a golf school.

Paige: Right. That sounds great. So what makes your school truly unique, though?

Ted: Hmmm, unique. I’m gonna say that, first off, we keep it fun.

Paige: Yeah.

Ted: When people come here, they have all these different goals, all these different … I gotta tell you, injuries, backgrounds … So I’ve learned over the years, having been in it 27 years, we gotta keep the atmosphere very fun, very relaxing to be taught at the same time, it’s gotta be educational.

Paige: Well, I’m really interested-

Ted: I hope you could feel, we have a good time here, we really do, we push ourselves to get smarter to help out our students, so, thank you very much. You come back any time.

Paige: Thank you.

Ted: All right. Thank you. Sounds great.
