Paige Spiranac Visits the Dustin Johnson Golf School

As the Dustin Johnson Golf School unveils its brand-new teaching facility at TPC Myrtle Beach, Paige Spiranac caught up recently with Director of Coaching Allen Terrell to get some insight behind the school’s teaching philosophy.

Paige Spiranac: Hey everyone, it’s Paige Spiranac, and we have a very special guest today.

Allen Terrell: Hello, I’m Allen Terrell with Dustin Johnson Golf School.

Paige Spiranac: This place is absolutely incredible and it seems like it’s going to get better and better. What do you want to do with it? What’s the whole goal here?

Allen Terrell: Well, obviously, as all golf pros, we want to grow the game.

Paige Spiranac: Yeah.

Allen Terrell: And we wanted to build a headquarters to do that, for everyone from beginner to, obviously, PGA TOUR players.

We get asked what is our philosophy obviously often, you know, it’s hard to answer, that would address all golfers.

Paige Spiranac: Yes.

Allen Terrell: So, it really depends on the golfer. How much time do they have to practice? What are their goals? And then it may not be a golf swing, it may be how they practice. It’s just really more about performance, and then we go into, okay, is the golf swing going to help their performance?

Paige Spiranac: That’s really awesome to hear, because I know sometimes when I may be with a new instructor, and they’re like “We teach this way” all the time to every single student. And that’s obviously not how it is. We’re all different, we all have different goals, and we don’t have a ton of time. Say, as someone who practices all the time, and some people who have, like, a normal actual job (laughing).

Allen Terrell: Right, I mean, we’ve got to fit the plan, you know, the name on our school definitely has a unique way of doing things.

Paige Spiranac: Yeah.

Allen Terrell: With his swing, so, that’s what’s kind of cool with our philosophy. So it’s really trying to change the least to get the most performance.

Paige Spiranac: Yeah, so you can adapt to all swings.

Allen Terrell: Right.
