Derek Watson, PGA Professional at Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club, fired a tournament-low 65 Thursday – including three consecutive birdies on the finishing holes at Grande Dunes Resort Course – to rally for the win at the 68th PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com South Carolina Open.

Watson (-11 for the three-round tournament) finished two shots clear of fellow Grand Strand PGA Professional Samantha Smith of River Hills Golf & Country Club, Steve Scott of The Outpost Club in Winston Salem, N.C., and amateur Judson Holliday of Aynor, S.C.

PGA Professionals competing in the South Carolina Open earned points toward the Bob Boyd CPGA Player of the Year Award presented by OMEGA.  Additionally, PGA Professionals’ scores count toward the True Temper CPGA Johnny Palmer Trophy.

PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com was joined by Yamaha Golf Cars, Mobipaid, Private Estate/FenixXCell, New Era and True Temper as event partners, with Project Golf and PGA REACH Carolinas as the event’s designated charities.
