PHOTO GALLERY: An Action Packed “$18 for 18” Day at The Dunes Club with Gary Player, Sir Nick Faldo, Charles Kelley and Mark Bryan
Amid sun-soaked skies and an enthusiastic host crowd of members at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, World Golf Hall of Fame members Gary Player and Sir Nick Faldo joined music stars Charles Kelley of Lady A and Mark Bryan of Hootie & the Blowfish in an action-packed day for “$18 for 18,” a promotional match to raise critical funds for Project Golf and its grow-the-game initiatives.
The team of Player and Kelley bested the Faldo/Bryan tandem 1-up in the team match play format, riding Player’s steady play and Kelley’s clutch putting on several holes to secure the victory. The day’s activities also featured a roundtable discussion hosted by PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com’s Charlie Rymer and including Player, Faldo and Gary Schaal, executive director for Project Golf and past president of the PGA of America; and a juniors clinic led by Player and Faldo.
Among the event’s benefactors were:
- The Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association, which is making a $5,000 contribution to “$18 for 18,” and will also provide a dollar-for-dollar match of all contributions to “$18 for 18” made by its Myrtle Beach Golf Passport members.
- The Play Golf Myrtle Beach Events Division, which will provide a dollar-for-dollar match of all contributions made by participants of any of its events, including the World Amateur Handicap Championship and many others.
- The Mike Strantz-designed sister courses at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and True Blue Golf Club, which are each contributing $5,000 to the cause.
- Myrtle Beach golf vacation provider Golf Trek, which is contributing $5,000 to support this initiative.
