The first Myrtle Beach Preseason Classic concluded with 60-degree temperatures and 200 happy golfers.

Players from 26 states gathered in Myrtle Beach for the 54-hole event, which enjoyed an outstanding golf course lineup and solid weather. The two-man team event divided players into two flights based on their USGA handicap.

North Carolinians Britt Cody and Shane Sigmon emerged from a three-way tiebreaker to win the Flight A Championship. Larry Collier and Bill Cooke, both of Hartfield, Va., were second, while Daniel Capozzoli of Oak Ridge, N.J., and Robert Weber of Highland Lakes, N.J., were third.

Dean and Jacob Edwards of Orlando, Fla., were Flight B champions after edging the team of David Paschal and Jim Boatman, both residents of Arkansas, via scorecard tiebreaker. Myrtle Beach residents David Rounthwaite and Matt Lanzelotti finished third.

The Preseason Classic was played on six of the Myrtle Beach area’s best and most popular courses. True Blue, Glen Dornoch, The Witch, Wild Wing Avocet, Tradition Club and Panther’s Run all hosted the event.

The tournament kicked off with a Sunday welcome party, complete with complementary food and drinks, and also included a Wednesday awards luncheon.

The event featured a different format of play each day, beginning with best ball in the opening round, followed by combined net team score and a Texas scramble.

The Preseason Classic is the second of three new events Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday has launched in recent months, preceded by the Fall Classic in November. The newest tournament is the March Championship, a 54-hole, stroke play event modeled after the World Amateur Handicap Championship. The event will be played March 8-10.
