Rymer Bites: Thoughts on Sebastián, Rocco and Rory

This week, Charlie Rymer offers his thoughts on Sebastián Muñoz’ breakthrough performance at the Sanderson Farms Championship, Rory McIlroy knocking at the door of the World No. 1 ranking, and more.

Charlie Rymer here, this morning coming to you from my front porch in beautiful Murrells Inlet, South Carolina!

Well, if you didn’t watch much golf over the weekend, let me get you up to date on some of the highlights:

Sebastián Muñoz won for the first time on the PGA TOUR, the Sanderson Farms down in Jackson, Mississippi. One of my favorite towns (I love Jackson, Mississippi!) Muñoz, with that win, punched his green ticket, he’ll be teeing up in The Masters next April. Big win for him.

When you look at PGA Tour Champions, Rocco Mediate – I love me some Rocco Mediate! He’s got a screw loose (love him to death, but he does have a little bit of a screw loose!). Well, Rocco has struggled throughout his career dealing with injuries, got things back together. First win in three years on PGA Tour Champions, congratulations to Rocco Mediate.

A win that gets my attention from England, the BMW PGA Championship, the flagship event on the PGA European Tour, was just won by Danny Willett. That’s right, that Danny Willett, 2016 Masters champion, who has struggled mightily with his game since winning The Masters. Spent some time as of late with teacher Sean Foley. And boy, do they have things on track, because that is a big win for Danny Willett, a player that at one point looked like he might not ever get back into the winner’s circle again.

And then finally, Rory McIlroy got off to a rough start over at the BMW PGA Championship. Did not start well, opened with 76, but ended up finishing with a tie for ninth place. Rory McIlroy, playing this week on the PGA European Tour, is looking to catch Brooks Koepka at world number one. Rory McIlroy currently is at number two. With Rory playing in some strong fields, and Brooks out, maybe pretty soon we’re going to be looking at Rory McIlroy at the top of the heap in the world of professional golf.

That’s all from Murrells Inlet, you guys have a nice week!
