Southwest Airlines Officially Arrives in Myrtle Beach

U.S. Congressman Tom Rice (R-SC) and South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette were among the federal, state and local government dignitaries on hand Sunday at Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) to officially welcome Southwest Airlines to the Grand Strand upon the arrival of its inaugural flight serving “The Golf Capital of the World.”

Southwest Airlines Vice President of Network Planning Adam Decaire was on hand to accept the well wishes and gratitude of a Grand Strand welcoming party that included Rice and Evette, along with S.C. State Representative Case Brittain, Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune, North Myrtle Beach Mayor Marilyn Hatley, Horry County Department of Airports Director of Airports Scott Van Moppes, Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Karen Riordan, Golf Tourism Solutions CEO Bill Golden and PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com Spokesperson Charlie Rymer.

With today’s arriving flight at MYR, Southwest officially launched nonstop service between Myrtle Beach and Nashville, TN (BNA), Baltimore, MD (BWI) and Chicago, IL (MDW). Additional nonstop service to Dallas, TX (DAL) and Pittsburgh, PA (PIT) will begin May 29, with service to five additional destinations set to begin June 6 and include Atlanta, GA (ATL), Columbus, OH (CMH), Indianapolis, IN (IND), Kansas City, MO (MCI) and St. Louis, MO (STL). In addition to the nonstop offerings, Myrtle Beach is accessible on Southwest Airlines this summer from 50+ cities through same-plane and connecting itineraries.

Six of Southwest’s 10 flights to Myrtle Beach will come from the Central Time Zone, providing Myrtle Beach a nonstop to link to the golf-crazed Midwest.
