Steve Dresser Joins Golf Channel Academy’s Network of Instructors

Longtime PGA Professional Steve Dresser, one of the most highly respected coaches in the Myrtle Beach area and South Carolina, was recently named a lead coach for GOLF Channel Academy.

Dresser, who operates the Steve Dresser Golf Academy at True Blue Golf Club in Pawleys Island, S.C., joins a group of the game’s most distinguished and influential coaches and facilities, all operating with the active support of GOLF Channel. With 87 locations canvassing 31 states, Canada and one European country, GOLF Channel Academy is among the most expansive golf instruction networks in the world today.

“I’m tremendously proud and excited to be joining such an impressive teaching network,” said Dresser, winner of the prestigious Palmer Maples Award as the 2004 Teacher of the Year in the Carolinas PGA Section. “We just recently celebrated our 30th anniversary of doing business in the Myrtle Beach area, but in some ways, our association with GOLF Channel Academy feels like a new beginning. I’m looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead and learning from and sharing ideas with these top coaches.”

A “Class A” PGA Member with more than 35 years teaching experience, Dresser has been a four-time finalist for Best Instructor on the Grand Strand of South Carolina and has also been recognized by the PGA of America as a Top 50 Growth of Game Professional. He estimates that he’s taught more than 40,000 golfers of all abilities throughout his career.

Dresser started his school from scratch in 1989 and built it into one of the “Top 25 Golf Schools in America,” as voted by Golf Magazine. Besides Dresser, the Academy boasts five additional PGA Professionals with a minimum of 15 years’ teaching experience, including top club-fitting specialist Bill Forbes. Forbes began his career with Titleist Golf in 1989, working in golf club testing and development, and later worked for Callaway Golf.

In addition to the club-fitting center – one of “America’s 100 Best Clubfitters” for 2019, according to Golf Digest magazine – the indoor/outdoor training facility features the latest video swing analysis and launch monitor technology, four hitting bays, an indoor putting green and immaculate short game area. Two high-end public courses – True Blue and Caledonia – and accommodations are also available on site, making the Steve Dresser Golf Academy an attractive spot not just for the locals, but the vacationing golfer, as well.
