In the Studio with Charlie Rymer: South Strand Golf Getaways with Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort

PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com’s Charlie Rymer is on set with Scott Thrailkill of Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort, the South Strand’s premier oceanfront lodging option. Charlie and Scott chat it up about what makes Litchfield Beach such a compelling option for a stay-and-play experience, and how the resort is uniquely qualified to help build a custom getaway for you and your group!

Charlie Rymer:

Joined now by Scott Thrailkill. He is a golf director at Lichfield Beach and Golf Resort. One of the coolest places on the planet. It’s down on the South Strand at the bottom of the Grand Strand. And Scott appreciate you coming in spending a little bit of time today.

Scott Thrailkill:

Charlie, thank you for having me. It’s an absolute pleasure.

Charlie Rymer:

Let’s talk a little bit, big picture, about Litchfield. Where I live, I live on the south side, when we go to the beach, we generally go over to Litchfield Beach. First and foremost, it’s just one of the most beautiful places in all South Carolina, in fact, the entire country. I know it’s something you’re very proud of.

Scott Thrailkill:

I am. Having an opportunity to work at every level of Myrtle Beach finishing up the career, and hopefully here down on the south end. It’s really been… it’s really different. The space I say, because everything moves at a slower pace. It’s a lot more relaxing. There’s no need to get uptight down there. Absolutely not. And the beach access is amazing because you have Huntington State Beach, then you have the Lichfield, which is a private beach to the Lichfield community, Lichfield by the Sea. And it’s just, it’s gorgeous, just the nature, everything around.

Charlie Rymer:

And that part of Myrtle Beach, it was really where the beach vacation was invented. There’s some historic beach homes and a lot of old South Carolina families and really from across the southeast would come and take beach vacations back there, turn of the century thing. Might have been the first place anybody was going to the beach and hanging out is down in your neck of the woods.

Scott Thrailkill:

It is. And when you go actually onto Pawleys Island, you still see some of the historic town was a town hall, that’s right there. You’ve got some of the original beach houses that still have not been modified. And they’re actually in use still, just structurally been updated. And then you travel up the island, you go to places like Decked Out, which is right on the northern tip of, and [inaudible 00:02:03] second floor pool deck, and this house, it’s, you’re going to pay for it, but you will love it.

Charlie Rymer:

So someone’s interested in coming to Litchfield. They want to put together golf. You’re the person that they need to. Talk to your department is who they need to talk to and get hooked up with, with a great place to stay for typically a week. That’s how the rentals run and we’ve got so many options for golf on the south end as well.

Scott Thrailkill:

Yes. Yeah, I am the golf director. As I say, I sell the fun. That’s my job is to sell the fun at the resort. We’ve got over 550 units on our program. We have more than 60 beach homes that we can use. We have everything from golf course villas to oceanfront three bedrooms, four bedrooms, the options are unlimited. And the best part about it is, I say, that for the south end, when you go south to 707, you’ve literally got the 12 best tracks to play, in one condensed area. Not one is over 15 minutes from the property.

Charlie Rymer:

And you can… that those courses include the likes of Pawleys Island, Caledonia, True Blue, Willbrook. You’re wearing the logo today and you can’t go wrong with any of those golf courses.

Scott Thrailkill:

No, you can’t, and the thing that we love is mentioning Willbrook and tradition, they’re less than half a mile from the resort. They are literally across the street on Willbrook Boulevard, River Club, Lichfield’s three minutes down the road.

Charlie Rymer:

Folks can speak with you. They can get their accommodation set up, the golf set up, you put together the whole package for them. You make it really easy for folks to book and come to see Litchfield and the great golf courses in the area.

Scott Thrailkill:

Yeah, when they book with me, we take care of everything from the lodging to the golf. I handle all the recommendations. Obviously, being a golfer myself, I’m up to date with all of the current conditions. So we like to try and play off that. Whether you’re traveling in, if you’re driving in, that’s when you play like TPC, Blackmoor. Try to make the trip really easy and convenient for you. And then one of the biggest packages that we have now, and I’m very excited about it, it’s the [inaudible 00:04:17] golf trail, inclusive package, which includes lunch, two drinks, range balls at each golf course you play. If you choose True Blue or Caledonia, they’re giving you a $20 gift card instead. It includes a $30 gift card to one of the local restaurants, which I know you love the local restaurant down there.

Charlie Rymer:

We’ll talk about that in a minute.

Scott Thrailkill:

Pawleys Tap and Pour, it’s brand new. They’ve got 40 beers on tap, but you have a $30 gift card there. We have a $30 gift card to our own restaurant, Coastal Dish. We’re trying to continue to build this inclusive package to the, let’s call it the closest thing Myrtle Beach has ever seen to an all inclusive golf trip.

Charlie Rymer:

Well, you mentioned the food. We’ve got some restaurants on the south end that… Everybody knows Charleston has some of the best restaurants in the world. We’ve got some restaurants on the south end of Myrtle Beach that’ll go toe to toe with anything Charleston has to offer.

Scott Thrailkill:

Absolutely. Frank’s Outback, that is one of the topnotch restaurants. You’ll always see new menu ideas. If you like them on Facebook. Food looks absolutely amazing. You’ve got some of the best homemade burger joints, Bisqit, Quigleys, those places are awesome. The unique thing that we all love about it is no chain restaurants. Every restaurant down there is locally owned and they care. They care, when you get a dish, as they say, they made it with love.

Charlie Rymer:

And just a little north, you get into the Marsh Walk at Murrells Inlet. Murrells Inlet’s the seafood capital of South Carolina. And whenever I’m away for about 10 days, I start craving fresh South Carolina wild caught shrimp. And I’m going to go over to Dead Dog Saloon and get them to fry them up for me. I just absolutely love the Marsh Walk.

Scott Thrailkill:

Yeah, the Marsh Walk is great. Because everybody can enjoy it. There is food for everyone, but being the seafood capital of South Carolina, it is by far the freshest, Dead Dog is amazing. Our friends, Jay at Prestwick we go down there every now and again. And it’s just an enjoyable place. I mean, where else? And Goat Island, come on. Where else do you get to drink a beer, stare at the water and stare at some goats at the same time.

Charlie Rymer:

Yeah. We got some goats on an island out there. It’s tidal and we get these king tides. The goats have to stand up on the picnic tables. That’s a great sport when you’re enjoying some adult beverages. So Scott appreciate you spending some time with us. If the folks viewing this, want to get in touch with you and have you book their golf package for them and stay at Litchfield, how do they do that?

Scott Thrailkill:

Yeah, well you can visit us at litchfieldbeach.com. Head over to the golf page. You can see my bio and that’ll have all my direct contact information or you can give me a call. It’s 843-235-5530 and they’re Monday through Friday. Ready to help.

Charlie Rymer:

Litchfield Beach and Golf resort. Appreciate your time Scott.

Scott Thrailkill:

Charlie, thank you very much.
