It’s a simple but effective drill that’s a favorite of Stefany King at Classic Swing Golf School at Legends Golf Resort in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Practice this three-step sequence, and your days of topping the ball are a thing of the past!
Hey guys, so this is my favorite drill. If you start topping the ball or are just getting really inconsistent shots on the golf course, head to the range and work on this drill.
So I’d say one of the biggest mishits in golf is topping the golf ball. So if you’re topping the golf ball, what we need to focus on is getting the club head to hit some grass. Obviously, we want to hit the grass after we hit the ball.
My favorite drill is to sit here with one hand on the golf club. I’m right-handed, so I’ll put my right hand on the bottom of the golf club, and I will work on folding my right arm. Folding my right arm here, throwing the club head down to the grass, and then turning through the shot. So we call it fold, throw, and turn.
Here’s how it would look. So I’m going to have the ball in the center of my stance. I’m going to put a little weight forward and just work on hitting shots. I’m just standing 40, 50 yards out there with a pitching wedge.
Fold, throw, turn. Try it out!
