In this video tip, Scott Tanguay of the Coastal Golf Academy in Myrtle Beach, S.C. demonstrates the “window” approach you can use to help you visualize and execute both low- and high-loft shots around the green.
Scott Tanguay:
Hey guys, Scott Tanguay here with the Coastal Golf Academy. Today, we’re going to talk about two simple shots that you’re going to need around the green, the low shot, and the high shot. And it’s very set up dependent. So take a look here. If we’re hitting the low shot, we’re going to want to see that ball a little bit more off the back foot, handle slightly forward, nothing crazy, slightly forward, because that’s going to help us shoot it out low with less loft.
If I want to go for the high one, we want to change the setup. We’re going to go here, we’re going to play the ball a little bit more in the middle, maybe open up that face a little bit because that’s going to use the bounce more and maximize the loft for us.
So guys, when we’re doing our short game, don’t just aimlessly try and hit it next to the hole. You’ve got to pick your landing spot, pick your window, and aim small, miss small. If we go about that, you’re going to be much more consistent.
So I’m here, we’re going to go with the low one first. I’ve got my window here, I’ve got my landing spot just after. See if we can pull it off.
Then if we’re going to go high, we’re going to have to move that ball position. Get it a little more in the middle. Open that face up. Still got my window. Just a little different here. Okay, give that a try!
