Veterans Classic Wraps Up with Tributes, Pride in Shared Bonds of Service

Wednesday’s festivities to wrap up the 2019 Veterans Golf Classic gave awards to individual and branch of service winners (the United States Army earned bragging rights this year) – and poignantly offered a chance to honor two servicemen for their valor, and for participants to express how much participating in this event means to them.

The Veterans Golf Classic selected the United States Air Force’s Ted Murphy and United States Army’s George Marshall, each of whom were named as Purple Heart Medal recipients for injuries received in combat, as recipients of Quilts of Valor provided by the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

For all other attending participants, Wednesday’s banquet was one last chance to renew old acquaintances, form new friendships celebrate their shared bond of service to their country.

Said Nick Camera, a 21-year Army veteran, “The week was perfectly organized, everything went smoothly. We had three rounds at three different golf courses. The staffs were fantastic, the golf courses were impeccable, and it really was a wonderful week.

“You know the favorite part is meeting the other veterans,” Camera continued. “Some of them I’ve met by playing in previous years, some brand new. So every day you’re playing with two different (participants), another twosome, and you get to meet two different guys. And then I see the guys we played against last year. It’s such friendly competition, it’s really a good time.

“Thank you so much for having us. It was a great tournament!”
