World Am Surpasses 3,000 Signups for 2021

With signups for the 2021 PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship having now surpassed the 3,000 entry milestone, players from around the nation and globe are preparing for a late summer golf getaway experience like no other.

As the global pandemic has dramatically affected all walks of life, it has also been a catalyst for a surge in golf participation and interest over the past 15 months – with the Myrtle Beach golf scene and “the largest, most fun and most valuable golf tournament on the planet” primed and ready to satisfy pent-up demand. As of June 4, 2021, entries for this year’s event were quickly approaching 3,300, representing the quickest the World Am has reached this participation threshold in 12 years. All 50 states are already represented, as well as 12 countries including Canada, Bermuda and United Arab Emirates.

“Golf at a local level has been doing phenomenally well, and now we’re beginning to see it translate to the traveling golfer,” said Scott Tomasello, World Am tournament director. “We have 25 percent new participants among this year’s entrants, and many of our signups are from players who’ve taken part in past World Ams and are now rejoining us after a hiatus, returning with a reinvigorated passion for the game.”

Said Bill Golden, CEO of Golf Tourism Solutions, “The pandemic taught us that we need more time to have fun, spend time with family and friends, and reward ourselves with activities that we love.  Golf proved to be an effective outlet during these past 15 months, and we’re seeing that sentiment carry over as the pandemic begins to recede.  The World Am represents all that is great about golf, and these early entry numbers point to an outstanding event at the end of August.”

Tomasello also sees the event’s recent expansion of available divisions as a compelling draw, with the “Just for Fun” Division among the World Am’s fastest growing since 2017, and this year’s addition of the Mid-Senior 60+ Gross Division expected to quickly gain popularity.

Entry to the 2021 World Am is $619, and includes four rounds of spectacular golf along with a full array of gift items and nightly admission to “The World’s Largest 19th Hole” at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Click here to register today!
