North Florida Takes 4-Shot Lead Into Final Round of General Hackler Championship

Paced by Travis Trace (-11), the tournament’s leading individual performer with Monday rounds of 66 and 67, 18th-ranked North Florida (-22) takes a four-shot lead into Tuesday’s final round of the General Hackler Championship hosted by Coastal Carolina University at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club.

The Ospreys are in search of their third General Hackler title in 11 appearances, their most recent coming in 2015. Four of their five lineup players ended Round 2 play under par including Phillip Knowles (-2), the nation’s 26th-ranked collegiate golfer who is on this year’s Ben Hogan Award watch list as among the NCAA’s top players.

North Florida leads a quartet of nationally ranked squads atop the team leaderboard, four shots clear of 25th-ranked Liberty and 6th-ranked Wake Forest and eight shots better than 29th-ranked Louisville. Kentucky is in fifth place followed by 17th-ranked Georgia, led by the nation’s 6th-ranked player and top-ranked freshman in Trent Phillips, the 2017 winner of the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship at TPC Myrtle Beach.

Tournament host Coastal Carolina finished Monday play in ninth place (+5) out of an elite 13-team field that also includes 23rd-ranked Texas A&M, East Tennessee State, East Carolina, Kent State, North Texas and Northern Illinois.

Final round tee times begin Tuesday at 8 a.m. Admission is free and open to the public, which is encouraged to attend and cheer on an elite field that includes many of the nation’s top collegiate players.
