We’ve all got that one guy who settles all debates on a specific topic. On this day, the topic was best new pizzerias. And my authority for this is none other than Joe from Summerville, who was back in Myrtle Beach recently and stopped by our new favorite pizza joint on my wife’s recommendation. Sue and I are native New Yorkers but will always defer to Joe – a full-blooded Italian American who’s also originally from the Tri-State area – for his final verdict.
Joe agreed to stop by Palmetto Pointe Pizza in Myrtle Beach (3711 Palmetto Pointe Blvd.) to sample the fare. He did – and after a resounding “HOLY (MOLY)!” he declared their Sicilian slice “the best I’ve ever had in my life.” And Joe didn’t even get to sample the close cousin of their traditional Sicilian pie that got us hooked on Palmetto Pointe Pizza in the first place.
With Joe’s overriding stamp of approval as validation, I made it a priority for Play Golf Myrtle Beach’s resident culinary team (Joe Novak, Rob Spallone, and yours truly) to try the pie that Joe missed out on. It’s called the Penn Station, and it’s to die for.
The best way to describe the Penn Station is as a light, crispy, “upside down” Sicilian pizza with the sauce on top. The crust is infused with olive oil, and the crunch is amazing. What did the guys think?
Rob: “10 out of 10.”
Joe: “Transcendent.”
And for me: “Transformational.” Because it forever changed the way I prefer a Sicilian-style pizza.
It’s also the reason Sue and I will travel 20 minutes in each direction from Carolina Forest to bring home a Penn Station for dinner. Our bonus is having world-class leftovers (Pro tip: Joe and I each reheat ours in a front-door air fryer, and the crust stays just as crunchy as when it first comes out of the oven).
If Sicilian-style pizza is not your thing, never fear. Palmetto Pointe’s menu includes a full selection of slices, whole pies, strombolli, pasta, subs, salads, and more. The guys and I couldn’t leave without trying some of the “more,” which included a sampling of garlic parmesan wings, mozzarella sticks, meatball slider served on a fresh garlic knot and slices of two other pizzas: their traditional thin crust, and the Drunken Grandma (a thin crust “upside down” pie topped with vodka sauce).
Drunken Grandma may need to be our next full-pie order. And the meatball slider is off-the-charts delicious.
Palmetto Pointe Pizza just opened in February 2025 – and has already collected nearly 200 Google reviews with a near-perfect rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars. And if you make it your post-round stop for lunch or dinner, our bet is you’ll be seconding what so many others have already declared about this one-of-a-kind pizza place!
