15th Hole at Man O’ War in Myrtle Beach Honored by Golf Digest Among Golf’s Best Island Green Holes

As part of their preview coverage of THE PLAYERS Championship this week, Golf Digest looked to TPC Sawgrass’ iconic hole – the island green par 3 at No. 17 – as inspiration for compiling a list of golf’s best island greens. The par-3 15th hole at Man O’ War Golf Club in Myrtle Beach has joined select company in this collection, included with holes from PGA West, East Lake, Secession and other prominent island green holes from throughout America and Mexico.

“If you’re a fan of island greens, book Man O’ War for your next Myrtle trip,” says Golf Digest writer Stephen Hennessey. “Back-to-back holes offer island greens: The 14th is a short-range par 4 and (No. 15) is a short par 3 (about 125 yards) playing to a 48-yard wide, 65-yard deep green. The facility boasts itself as the only course with back-to-back island greens in America. Plus, it also has an ‘island hole’ (No. 9) with water surrounding the fairway and green.”

Man O’ War’s 15th hole is one of 17 cited by Golf Digest, which also named the 17th at PGA West’s Stadium Course; the 15th at East Lake Golf Club, home of the PGA TOUR’s season-ending TOUR Championship; and the 14th at Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course, which famously requires a ferry ride to complete the playing experience.
