The 3 Top Birdie Holes & 3 Best Par 3s at Sea Trail Golf Resort: Ask the Pro with Jimmy Biggs

For this edition of “Ask the Pro” we venture north to Sea Trail Golf Resort, home to the signature designs of Willard Byrd, Rees Jones and Dan Maples. From there we get triple-course perspectives on two topics, each from Sea Trail Golf Resort General Manager Jimmy Biggs. With 54 holes from which to choose, Biggs has no shortage of options for identifying the Resort’s top birdie holes and par 3s.

For his choices of Sea Trail’s three best birdie holes, Biggs puts the spotlight on one from each of its signature courses:

Byrd No. 18 – “This is a short par 5 by today’s standards, tipping out at 460 yards from the back tees,” says Biggs. “Most hitters can get up to the green in two with ease. The green has two small bunkers short and right of the green and a large, closely mown bailout area to the left. Up and downs are pretty straight forward for all pin locations.”

Jones No. 14 – “This is a short par 4 that for most should be pitching wedge or less each time. Other than the water on the right off the tee, this hole is almost defenseless.”

Maples No. 1 – “Nothing like starting off the day with short par 4 to get your round going. Just shy of 300 yards from the back tees, this hole has everyone looking for short birdie putts.”

For his selections of the three best par 3s at Sea Trail Golf Resort, Biggs once more selected one from each of its three courses:

Jones No. 5 – “A short- to mid-iron carry over water to a peninsula green. No bailing out here.”

Byrd No. 2 – “Another mid-iron over water to a 41-yard-long green elevated over a deep, front side bunker.”

Maples No. 11 – “A tree lined, downhill shot to a two-tier green is protected by a deep front left bunker. Being on the wrong tier will challenge the best putters to get down in two.”
