Ask the Pro: The 3 Most Scenic Holes at Rivers Edge

We asked Dan Miller, Head Golf Professional at Rivers Edge, to weigh in with his selections of the trio of holes he’d cite as especially photogenic from the spectacular landscape presented at his home course. Considering the plentiful options this riverside setting provides, Miller zeroed in on one particular stretch of holes.

In his words:

“The finishing stretch at Rivers Edge Golf Club is what golfers remember long after the scorecard is tucked away. Holes 16, 17, and 18 trace the bluffs and marshes of the Shallotte River, creating one of the most scenic closing runs in coastal Carolina golf. Designed by Arnold Palmer, the final three holes combine dramatic elevation changes, tidal marsh views, and risk-reward shot making that make the finish both beautiful and unforgettable.”

“The par-4 16th begins the finishing stretch along the Shallotte River. This is just one of many Arnold Palmer golf holes at Rivers Edge where accuracy matters more than distance. This hole is demanding from the start. It’s such a good golf hole where you can’t just pull driver and swing for the fences. Much like many holes at Rivers Edge, Mr. Palmer shows his design genius with making each golfer think their way around the course rather than bomb and gauge.”

“The par-5 17th is a classic Arnold Palmer risk-reward hole hugging the marshland and Shallotte River. This par 5 is just so scenic and such a beautiful golf hole. A solid tee shot gives you the best chance to reach the green in two. When the pin is tucked behind the tree that sits in front of the green, it’s just an awesome view from up above in the fairway.”

“On the par 4 18th, when you combine the view of the clubhouse and hole 9 in the distance, it’s a finishing hole where you can hang that picture anywhere. I think the views alone from the tee box make this one of the most scenic finishing holes in Myrtle Beach golf. It’s another hole where you can’t overlook your tee shot because you have nowhere to miss right, and the same goes for the second shot into the green as well. With the bulkhead renovations completed in the spring of 2025, Rivers Edge has really made this hole much more visually appealing.”
