Two of the top designs in The Golf Capital of the World® have once more gained a seat at the national table, with Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and The Dunes Golf & Fish Club among Golfweek’s Best 2026 list of the Top 100 Best Courses You Can Play in the U.S.
On a list topped by such nationally familiar names as Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes, Pinehurst and Whistling Straits, Caledonia enters the 2026 ranking at No. 81 while The Dunes Club comes in next at T82.
The Best Courses You Can Play inclusion is the second national Golfweek honor in 2026 for each of these stellar designs, with Caledonia (T61) and The Dunes Club (T62) also named among the publication’s Top 200 Resort Courses in the U.S. earlier this year.
Mike Strantz’s first solo design, Caledonia continues to wow raters with its unforgettable combination of architecture, artistry and a beautiful piece of Lowcountry property. The Dunes Club recently hosted the third edition of the ONEFlight Myrtle Beach Classic, the Grand Strand’s first-ever PGA TOUR event, and the storied Robert Trent Jones Sr. design has long been regarded as among the nation’s premier layouts.
Golfweek’s selection of public-access layouts is among its premium rankings offerings, where hundreds of members of its course-ratings panel continually evaluate courses throughout the country and rate them based on 10 criteria on a points basis of 1 through 10. They also file a single, overall rating on each course. Those overall ratings are averaged to produce these rankings. The top handful of courses in the world have an average rating of above 9, while many excellent layouts fall into the high-6 to 8 range.
