Charlie Rymer Checks Out “Breakfast All Day” Options at True Blue

PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com’s Charle Rymer stopped by True Blue Golf Club recently, to explore their delicious off-course menu options highlighted by their many “breakfast all day” selections. PGA Head Golf Professional Bart Romano joined Charlie as they sampled True Blue’s finest from the kitchen!

Charlie Rymer:
It always puts a smile on my face when I come to True Blue. And I’ve got special guest here. I have PGA Head Professional, Bart Romano. And you’ve been here, 14 years-

Bart Romano:
14 years.

Charlie Rymer:
… now and it’s such a special place, True Blue, your sister golf course, Caledonia, just not even a couple miles away. And we’ve got this wonderful 18th Hole behind us. And Bart, the only thing is, when I come here, it’s a little bittersweet for me. The designer Mike Strantz, we lost him, it’s been close to 10 years now. And, of course, he designed True Blue and Caledonia. And for fans of golf you see his work. The Monterey Peninsula Country Club, the Shore Course every year is in the rotation at the AT&T. It sort of makes me sad when I come over here, missing the work that Mike would have done had he stayed with us a little bit longer.

Bart Romano:
Absolutely. I tell a lot of our guests that the golf course here at True Blue is very unique to anything you’re going to find in the Myrtle Beach area. Caledonia was his first golf course. We opened four years later. And it’s truly a unique golf course to the area.

Charlie Rymer:
What are some of the things that stand out about this golf course that make it unique?

Bart Romano:
The wider fairways, the large bunkers, large greens. He leads you into believing that yeah, it’s a very forgiving golf course off the tee. But it is very strategic, where if you may hit the fairway, you have a very difficult shot in to the green.

Charlie Rymer:
Well I love wide fairways, because I don’t hit it really straight. And the other thing I like is a good meal. We’re in your grill here, hanging over 18 green, and they brought out some breakfast items for us that are available all day long here. Walk us through what we’re looking at over here.

Bart Romano:
We have a fried green tomato eggs benedict. We have the Philly cheesesteak omelet, our French toast, and we have our two-egg breakfast here on my right.

Charlie Rymer:
And you grew up in the Philadelphia area. You don’t know much about fried green tomatoes, do you?

Bart Romano:
I know a lot more about the cheesesteak omelet than the green tomatoes!

Charlie Rymer:
Talk to me about this golf course, the other amenities that are available here. Obviously breakfast all day. The food here is wonderful. The view is great, but you guys are certainly a full-service golf facility.

Bart Romano:
Absolutely. It’s not just your regular golf course food. Hamburgers and hot dogs, of course, obviously we have that. But with the breakfast all day, it’s been a huge hit. Every day we come in, one, two, three o’clock, and there’s people actually still having breakfast food during lunchtime hours. And it’s a wide array of food as you can see in front of us. It’s something different.

Charlie Rymer:
And we’re on the enclosed back porch.

Bart Romano:
Yeah.

Charlie Rymer:
Part of this back porch is open. Wonderful hang. You’ve got to have folks that spend a lot of time here after that round of golf, I would think.

Bart Romano:
Absolutely, yeah. Especially in the fall and the spring, when the weather is absolutely ideal. And we have a lot of people outside hanging out after their round, whether it be eating, drinking some cocktails, or enjoying the scenery, or hooting and hollering at the guests coming up the 18th fairway.

Charlie Rymer:
That’s a lot of fun, the hooting and the hollering, and I want to talk to you a little bit about that. Having been here for 14 plus years, do you find that you have folks that come here year after year after year, with the same group of people?

Bart Romano:
We actually just had … It’s funny you mentioned that. We have a group of guys that are out today, and this is their 25th year of coming. And this is their 20th year coming to True Blue in a row. And to celebrate, they’re all wearing knickers today.

Charlie Rymer:
I saw those guys today.

Bart Romano:
So yeah, they’re getting their picture taken right now. But we have a lot of return guests, and that’s what we build our reputation on.

Charlie Rymer:
Over the years, a favorite menu item here in the grill?

Bart Romano:
My favorite would probably be the Philly cheesesteak omelet.

Charlie Rymer:
Yeah, that’s what I ordered for breakfast.

Bart Romano:
Absolutely.

Charlie Rymer:
Yeah. So I’ve enjoyed spending time with you, but I’m going to wrap up this thing now, because it’s time for me to jump into this Philly cheesesteak omelet!

Bart Romano:
I think I’m going to join you!
