Since shining on the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship stage, several of its former champions have already moved on to higher-level achievement and glory. We’ve highlighted the next-level feats of several, including PGA TOUR winners Akshay Bhatia and Nick Dunlap, plus a host of others who competed in the 2021 DJ World Junior.

Less than six months since that last update, we’ve had a growing list of more recent DJWJ alums who’ve now staked claims of their own.

Mason Howell won the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship Aug. 17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco by defeating Jackson Herrington, 7 and 6, in the final match. Howell was T7 (+4) at this year’s DJWJ and was T9 (+1) at the 2024 DJWJ.

Herrington lost the 2024 DJ in a one-hole playoff to Ethan Paschal.

By virtue of his U.S. Amateur victory, Howell also punched his ticket to the 2026 Masters, 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills and 2025 U.S. Walker Cup team – which last weekend secured a convincing 17-9 victory over Great Britain & Ireland that included the contributions of teammates and fellow DJWJ alums:

  • Tommy Morrison, who finished T27 at the 2022 DJWJ won by Ben James; T6 at the 2021 DJWJ won by future PGA TOUR winner Nicholas Dunlap; and competed in the 2020 DJWJ
  • Jackson Koivun, who won the 2023 DJWJ and currently the world’s top-ranked amateur and has gone on to stardom at Auburn University, where in 2024 he won the Ben Hogan, Haskins and Jack Nicklaus awards as the nation’s top collegiate golfer; and in 2025 is the reigning Mark H. McCormack Medal winner as the leading player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking
  • James, who in addition to his DJWJ credentials (2022 champion, 5th place in 2021) has starred at Virginia where he was a 2024-2025 PING First Team All-American
  • Michael La Sasso, the 2025 NCAA Individual Champion who at Ole Miss earned PING and Golfweek First Team All-American honors this year, and competed in the 2022 DJWJ.
