Five Things You Need to Know About the Love Course at Barefoot Resort

January 23, 2013

Love Course is the perfect blend of fun and challengingThe Love Course at Barefoot Resort has been among the most popular layouts on the Myrtle Beach golf scene since its opening in 2000. A creative design and superior conditions have kept players flocking to a course that has consistently been ranked among the nation’s top 100 public layouts.

Before you tee it up on Davis Love’s most highly regarded course, here are five things you need to know:

1. Bring your driver and be prepared to wallop it. The fairways on the Love Course are ample and, a long hitter himself, DLIII provides every opportunity to hit your favorite 450cc club!

2. After making your golf ball scream for mercy off the tee, don’t get greedy on the approach. Play for the middle of the greens. The penalty for missing is often a trip to a collection area or a bunker, leaving a difficult up and down. Be aggressive off the tee and smart on the approach.

3. Love is a native of Charlotte, N.C., and his Carolina roots are incorporated into his design at Barefoot. The course’s defining characteristics are its crowned greens, reminiscent of Donald Ross’ work in Pinehurst. Those greens are another reason to heed the advice in point No. 2.

4. The Love Course is as fair a test of golf as you will encounter. Nothing is hidden and the layout is ideal mixture of fun and challenge. If you play well, you will be rewarded. It’s tough to ask for much more.

5. The faux ruins an old plantation home are one of the Love Course’s visual calling cards and blend naturally into the landscape on holes four, five and six. That stretch is arguably the course’s most memorable, but before you start asking about the history of the old plantation home, remember they are faux ruins! It’s a credit to Love that they appear to be authentic.
