Golf Tip from Paige Spiranac: Using a Hybrid Near the Green

In her latest video tip, Paige Spiranac shows us that the hybrid can be used for more than long iron-equivalent shots. In this demonstration, it serves as a great alternative to using a putter off the fringe.

Paige:
Hi everyone, it’s Paige. We are back for another tip. So a lot of people struggle when they’re on the fringe and they use their putter, end up not having enough loft, so it just hits into the fringe and it doesn’t go anywhere. So that’s where you come in with a hybrid.

This is one of my favorite clubs to use when I’m just off the green or if there’s a little bit more fringe that I need to get through. And it’s really simple and really easy. So basically what you do is you just grab your hybrid or any club that has just a little bit more loft, you grip it the same way as you would your putter, you do a normal putting stroke and you’re good to go. So basically when you set up, same putting stroke, same putting set up, and just take it back. The great thing about the hybrid is that it just puts a little bit more loft on it, so you’ll get through the rough or the fringe and you’re good to go.

So the only difference I would say is with a putter, it’s going to come out a little bit softer compared to a hybrid. So make sure you practice this before you take it onto the golf course. So the first time you try this, don’t try it on the golf course. Practice it first so you know how it’s going to react, how it’s going to come out, and how far it’s going to roll as well.

And it’s as simple as that. So if you feel uncomfortable using your putter from the fringe, and feel like it doesn’t get enough loft and get stuck into the fringe, and you leave everything short, try the hybrid out. I think it’s really going to help you. This is a shot I use all the time, and I hope it works for you!
