Golf Magazine Ranks Myrtle Beach No. 2 on List of Favorite Buddy Trips

Travelin’ Joe Passov has played more than 1,400 golf courses in 50 states and 25 countries, so when Golf Magazine’s travel editor talks, smart people listen.

As part of a recent series on Travelin’ Joe’s three favorite golf travel gifts – available on Golf Magazine’s popular Front9 app  – Passov ranked Myrtle Beach second on his list of three favorite buddy trips.

The Grand Strand trailed only the much-acclaimed Bandon Dunes Resort on the Oregon Coast.

“My second choice has to be Myrtle Beach,” Passov said of his rankings. “Understand not everyone is fit to get to Bandon Dunes and it can be a little pricey and hard to get to. Myrtle Beach, on the other hand, is perfect for everybody. That’s why I call it the supermarket of golf. No matter what you are in the market for, they’ve got it.”

With more than 100 golf courses, including three that Golf Magazine ranked among  “America’s Top 100 You Can Play,” it’s hard for us to argue with Travelin’ Joe’s assessment. The Grand Strand is also home to 13 of the top 20 public courses in South Carolina, according to Golf Magazine.

Caledonia (No. 27), the Dunes Club (No. 47) and Love Course at Barefoot Resort (No. 86) are all on Golf Magazine’s most recent Top 100 You Can Play list.

While the number of outstanding Myrtle Beach golf courses is a significant attraction, so is the area’s ability to satisfy the needs of any travel budget.
