December 16, 2015

Craig Chinn is one of Myrtle Beach's premier golf package providersA native Virginian, Chinn graduated from Central Florida with a degree in golf management operations and immediately moved to Myrtle Beach, because “what better place to use your degree than the Golf Capital of the World?”

Chinn, who grew up around the game, has lived up-and-down the Grand Strand, giving him a local’s perspective on every corner of the market. Enjoy a short but informative Q&A with the man who runs the show at MyrtleBeachGolfPackages.com.

What is your best score ever?
62 at Glen Oak Country Club in Danville, Va.

What is your favorite part of being a Myrtle Beach golf packager?
My favorite part of the job is dealing with golfers, talking golf and talking Myrtle Beach. That’s what I love to do. I feel like I know just as much about it as anybody.

What’s your favorite Myrtle Beach golf course?
The Dunes Club. The history, the quality, the conditions. There are still lot of good ones, a lot of great ones, but Dunes Club is still No. 1 to me.

What is one thing new group leaders should know about a trip to the area?
Only about 15 courses in Myrtle Beach single tee. The rest don’t and a lot of people don’t know what a double tee is. Courses (that double tee) either run from 7-9 or 7:30 to 9:30. Groups want the 10-11 o’clock tee time but it isn’t an option at the majority of courses. I also recommend you plan your trip around your flight. Get the best deal on the flight and plan around that.

What information should group leaders know before contacting a provider?
We have people call up and say, ‘We are looking for a good deal, what do you have?’ You have to know your dates (because price varies greatly depending on the time of year you are coming). Do your homework, which you can always do that on our website at MyrteBeachGolfPackages.com, get your dates and have a budget.

One final question, where would you recommend people go for a nice meal?
I’m a big beef guy and in Pawleys Island, go to Franks Outback under the tent. In the Central Strand, New York Prime and Collectors have a great atmosphere, and in North Myrtle Beach, Joe’s Bar and Grill is great. They have a beautiful view of the marsh and have added a back porch.
