Myrtle Beach Commemorates 20th Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks with Unity Memorial Relocation

In a ceremony for the 20-year commemoration of the 9/11 terror attacks, Golf Tourism Solutions joined local officials in paying tribute to the lives lost and first responders and military personnel who responded so heroically in defense of our freedoms with the official unveiling of the 9/11 Unity Memorial at Warbird Park.

The 9/11 Unity Memorial was relocated to Warbird Park from its former location at Broadway at the Beach. The Unity Memorial was originally conceived by members of Cub Scout Pack 891 in the aftermath of the September 11 tragedy, bringing together Scouts, individuals and businesses from the Grand Strand to erect a monument to remember the way Americans stood together in the days following the tragedy.

The monument was completed in 2011 with the presentation of a ribbon beam from the World Trade Center’s North Tower by a group of retired firefighters. The presentation was a show of appreciation for the Myrtle Beach tourism community hosting countless first responders to provide them respite from the work of restoring Ground Zero, and Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday (now Golf Tourism Solutions) launching the FDNY 9-11 Memorial Golf Outing that forged a lasting relationship with the FDNY and its ranks.
