Amateur golfer Walker Isley of Wilmington, NC fired a 5-under par score of 66 at Prestwick Country Club Monday to lead a group of eight golfers who moved a step closer to qualifying for the Grand Strand’s first-ever PGA TOUR event, the 2024 Myrtle Beach Classic May 9-12 at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
Tyler Jones (a) of Jacksonville, NC, Patrick Moriarty of Rockville, MD and Mitchell Vance of Hartsville, SC each finished one stroke off Isley’s pace with rounds of 67. Caleb Loudin (a) of Summerville, SC and Hunter Fry of Bonita Springs, FL were T5 at 3-under, while Rodric Overholt of Abbeville, SC and Matt Sharperstine of Charlotte, NC finished T7 at 1-under.
Each of these eight golfers now advances to the Myrtle Beach Classic Open Monday Qualifying event May 6 at TPC Myrtle Beach, where the top four players from that 18-hole stroke play competition earn a coveted spot in the 2024 Myrtle Beach Classic.
Monday’s event at Prestwick was the first of two pre-qualifiers set for this week, with the second set for Wednesday, May 1 at TPC Myrtle Beach. The number of players and ties advancing from each pre-qualifier to the “Monday Q” on May 6th is determined on a pro rata basis.
